About

Twenty-five years of plans that got built

This office exists because commercial landscape work in Southern California stopped being about planting and started being about proving compliance, and most property owners have nobody who speaks that language.

DRAFT — for you to edit. Everything below is written to the right length and tone; replace the specifics with what’s actually true.

Ryan Cook has been designing landscape in Southern California since 2001, working with The Alhambra Group, a landscape architecture firm. Over twenty-five years the work has covered commercial frontages, business parks, HOA common areas, and multi-tenant properties throughout Riverside County and beyond.

The through-line has been drawings that survive contact with a plan checker. A landscape plan is not a picture of a garden. It has to satisfy a reviewer, a water agency, and eventually a maintenance crew, all at the same time, and learning what makes each of them say yes is the part that takes decades.

Southern California changed the job. Water restrictions tightened, rebate programs appeared, code enforcement got serious, and non-functional turf went from an aesthetic question to a regulatory one. Property owners who had never thought about their landscape suddenly had a letter with a deadline on it. Most of them had no idea who to call.

This consulting practice was built for exactly that gap: the owner who needs the turf converted correctly the first time, the manager holding a citation, the HOA board that has to explain a decision. The plans are drawn to be approved, the plants are chosen to survive here, and the paperwork gets carried through instead of handed over.

How We Work

One person walks it, draws it, and defends it

The person who measures your property is the person who draws the plan and the person who answers the reviewer’s comments. Nothing gets handed to a junior drafter and nothing gets lost between departments.

That’s deliberate. Most problems on these projects start in a handoff: between the designer and the applicant, between the plan and the installer, or between the city’s comment and whoever ends up answering it.

What we do — and what we don’t

This is a design and consulting office. We measure, design, document, and carry the paperwork through the agency. We will walk your contractor through the drawings so the work matches what was approved.

We do not remove turf, install landscape, or supply crews, and we don’t select or hire contractors on your behalf. You choose your own installer. That also means our plant and material choices are never steered by what a nursery happens to have in stock.

Start with a conversation

The first consultation is free. Bring the address, a rough idea of the turf area, and any letter the city has sent you.
